ABA Token Economy Systems and ABA Reinforcers

A token economy system is a method used to try and reinforce (increase) the frequency of a target behaviour e.g. eye contact. The tokens or symbols are provided to the individual when the target behaviour is performed. The tokens can then be exchanged by the child for other types of reinforcement e.g. bubbles, treats. For example, if the target behaviour is eye contact, each time the child performs the target behaviour given a specific stimulus e.g. “look at me”, you can provide a token. When the child has accumulated enough tokens e.g. 5, 10, the child can exchange the said number of token to obtain a more tangible reinforcer e.g. candy, bubbles. We’ve organized our free Token Economy Systems into “Thematic”  e.g. Winnie The Pooh or “Non-Thermatic” e.g. checkmarks. We’ve provided some common reinforcers children with Autism may like to work for.

  1. Thematic Token Economy Boards:These pages need to be cut, laminated and affixed with Velcro. Each file contains 10 small tokens and 5 larger tokens. The second page of the file contains a picture which can be cut in half, laminated and affixed with Velcro. Each time the child has worked for the five large tokens, he/she gets one half of the picture. Once the child has worked for a total of 10 tokens, the picture is complete, and the reinforcer is provided. These cards provide students with a visual reminder of potential reinforcers for staying on task and focusing on the ABA program they are working on.There are different themes, depending on your child’s preferences.
